Quote Editor “Preview Bug” Fixed for Internet Explorer

Hi friends,

Some of you have mentioned that when you are using Internet Explorer the quote preview didn’t work. I’m happy to announce that I fixed that bug.

*If you upload your avatar again it will keep the aspect ratio (won’t squish you picture into a square).

*Witty Profiles has a new layout. If you don’t like the layout, please tell me why you don’t like it. Don’t just say, “Change it back!”.

Preview Quotes Before You Submit Them!

Hello Friends,

I just released a new quote editor. You can now preview your quotes before you submit them. This way you can see exactly how your quote will look on Witty Profiles. No more deleting a quote a million times trying to get it to look just right. Try it now!

What’s Next?

So I think I finally discovered and fixed the problem of the slowness on Witty Profiles. It turns out one of the the database tables was missing an important index. We’ll see how the site performs under a heavy load tonight. Keep your fingers crossed.

So what am I working on now?

First on the list is duplicate quote detection. This might be difficult, but I’ll give it a shot. It will prevent copying (jocking) of quotes.

Second on the list is a new editor for quotes. I’ve been getting a lot of complaints that the quotes don’t look right after they get saved.

Third on the list are better moderation tools to cut down on non-quotes.

Sometime during the development of these new features, expect to see a new layout for Witty Profiles.

Speed!

Sorry for the slowness of Witty Profiles lately. I’m looking into it and adding some more caching of static-ish data. I think it may be due to the spam filter that comment notifications go through. I may start batching comment notifications soon. I’ll keep you posted on what I am doing to speed things up.

New Feature: Add Comments to Quotes

Hey Friends!

You can now add comments to individual quotes! To add a comment to a quote, click on the little word bubble or comment number. You will go to the detail page for this quote where you can read and add comments for that quote.

You can keep track of comments people make on your quotes by clicking on ‘quote comments’ on your profile page. Just click on the quote number link to see all the comments on that quote.

New Ranking Method For Quotes

Hello Friends! Lately, Witty Profiles has been drowning in “rate high” quotes. It seems like people on Witty Profiles were making (non)quotes just to get a big number next to them. Witty Profiles is a place for unique and high quality quotes. It’s not a popularity contest.

Quotes are now ranked by the number of times the quote is favorited by other users on Witty Profiles. This should be a more accurate way to determine the ‘best’ quotes on the site. To add a quote to your favorites, click the heart. The heart will turn red when it’s added to your favs. To remove a quote from your favs, click on the red heart.

Please don’t make quotes that say “favorite this quote if you agree” or something similar. Non-quotes like those will be deleted.
